"How to Read the Newspaper”

A one-day workshop on the topic "How to Read Newspaper" was conducted successfully on 14-07-2025 at College Seminar Hall - II. The event was organized by the Department of PG Commerce with the objective of helping commerce students develop effective newspaper reading habits to improve their general knowledge, to equip them with current affairs knowledge useful for competitive exams and career development.

An engaging and insightful session was conducted by Mr. Narayanan, the esteemed Resource Person from The Hindu. The session focused on the significance of newspaper reading in enhancing awareness, analytical thinking and vocabulary.

Mr.Narayanan emphasized the value of reading newspapers—particularly The Hindu—for aspirants preparing for competitive exams such as UPSC, TNPSC, banking and other corporate examinations. He guided students on how to effectively approach various sections of the newspaper, including editorials, business news and national developments.

He also stressed that consistent newspaper reading not only aids in exam preparation but also plays a crucial role in shaping one’s vision for life and instilling personal discipline. The session was motivational and thought-provoking and it received an enthusiastic response from the students.

On behalf of the student community, S.Sanjay from I B.Com and M.Trirsha Diffy from II B.Com, shared feedback on the event. The students thanked the department and faculty for organizing such a memorable and enriching program. They also expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest for his inspiring words.

All faculty members of the department extended their support and ensured the smooth conduct of the program.

We are proud to share that our first-year B.Com students began their newspaper subscription from today and have started their reading journey.
