Date 10-10-2025
Final Report:

An invited talk on the topic “Luminescence and its Applications” was organized by the Department of Physics & Research Centre on 10-10-2025 at 12 noon in Physics Seminar Hall. The session was conducted by Dr. S. Masilla Moses Kennedy, Professor & Head, Department of Physics, Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering (SSN), Chennai. The speaker began with a basic introduction to luminescence, differentiated it from incandescence and fluorescence. Using energy level diagrams, various types of luminescence were discussed and explained. He also covered factors affecting luminescence, such as temperature, pressure and the presence of quenching agents. Applications of luminescence in biological imaging, LED technology, environmental monitoring were also presented. The talk provided a clear and comprehensive understanding of luminescence, both at the fundamental and applied levels. It was highly informative and well-received by the PG students of both Aided and SF stream.
