Every year, the one event that the students of Mathematics eagerly look forward to is the
inauguration of the PG Mathematics Association. The event began exactly at 2.00
p.m. on 07.12.2021. About 100 students participated in this event.
The programme has been started with a prayer song, sang by the
angels of II M.Sc. Mathematics (Aided).
Then the event was continued by giving a formal welcome to everyone by Dr. A.
Vijayan, Head of the Department of Mathematics (Self). In his gracious words,
he welcomed everyone and gave an introduction to our Chief Guest.
Followed by him, our event was graced by Dr. A. Pramila Inpa Rose,
Head of the Department of Mathematics (Aided). In her address, she highlighted
the importance of Mathematics in
day-to-day life, the application of Mathematics
and she explained Group Theory by its Binary Operation. On an
interesting note, she shared the three trends in mathematics, like Number
Theory, the creation of Linear Algebra, and Group Theory.
The most exciting moment has arrived and it is our Chief Guest, Dr.
S. Sujitha, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, Holy Cross College,
Nagercoil. She started her session by raising a question. What is Mathematics? And who are all these mathematicians?
The session was very interesting, and she shared more views and ideas about
mathematics. She then focused on a particular topic, i.e. Graph Theory. She highlighted this topic by saying,
"One picture is worth more than thousands of words." She again
discussed the Matrix Representation of Graphs.
Finally, our event has been concluded by S. Dhanya, I M.Sc.
